The more things change

So I figure the first post after 4 years should be reflective on what has changed for me. Well the biggest accomplishment would be graduating from college. I got my history degree, which basically allows me to share random facts and stories with people that I'm usually the only one who is interested in. I don't regret it though. Sure I don't work in the field but I did learn to think critically and how to be persuasive. I miss having intellectual conversation about it. I often have internal debates over the historical importance of a person or idea. I recently bestowed upon Napoleon the title of second most influential person in modern history. (After Martin Luther of course) As a fitting tribute, I bought a print off the famous portrait of Napoleon crossing the Alps. I'm going to hang it in my bathroom. :)

Professionally, I was recently promoted to a System Analyst position with Provo City. My focus is going to be public safety, which if anyone knows my general feelings toward the police, might think this is a contradiction. The position is a good opportunity but, the anxiety has been killing me. When I tell people about my new job, the first question I get is when am I getting a gun. Yeah there is definitely a cultural difference.

My personal life is a complete wreck as usual. My life changed quite a bit in college. It doesn't really fit with the Provo scene. As I write this, I can hear BYU students doing family home evening. The other day, a high school friend was recounting a story and said the individual in the story was like me. I questioned his reasoning since the individual in question was most unsavory. After thinking about it, he responded "You know........he doesn't believe in Jesus." I couldn't help but chuckle. I actually took it is a compliment. It probably wasn't meant as one but I felt good after.

I've got a million other things on my mind that I could talk about like my recent experiences in dating, the dwindling health of my grandparents, or this Bradley Manning bullshit but I'm tired. I wrote this on my tablet and gave up on proof reading so sorry for the shitty grammar.

Redesign

First thing that needed to happen was a quick redesign. Had to bring this thing into the next decade. Features include: Mobile Support! A slight move away from my intentional ugly design!

More changes to come!

Enjoy a random bear photo!

Hello, old friend.

I finally wandered back to this dusty old corner of the internet. There was a time, when I was bored at work and I said to myself, "Self, you should have a blog". So I made the blog and made a couple posts and then it sailed back into the ether. Maybe the time has come that, like the phoenix, it should rise from the ashes.

Top 10 Albums

I finally finished the list. I wrote a little description for each album, but for those of you who prefer the cliffnotes version, here it is:

1. Bob Dylan - Bringing It All Back Home
2. Tom Petty - Wildflowers
3. David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars
4. The Killers - Sam's Town
5. Radiohead - In Rainbows
6. Beck - Mutations
7. The Who - Tommy
8. Death Cab for Cutie - Plans
9. Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run
10. Lou Reed - Transformer

Album No. 10

Lou Reed- Transformer

Originally, I was only going to put one glam rock album on this list, but I kinda want to finish up this project. I came across this album last spring and was blown away by it. I really enjoy the playful nature of Lou's music and the his vibrant descriptions of the life and times of New York circa 1972. Favorite Lyric: "If I could be anything in this world that flew, I would be a bat and come swooping after you.

Album No. 9

Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run

Sometimes I feel bad picking some cliche picks, but this album deserves to be on here. Thunder Road is a beautiful song that the Boss performs excellently every time. Not to mention such additionally awesome tracks like Born to Run and Tenth Avenue Freezeout.

Album No. 8

Death Cab For Cutie - Plans

This was the first Death Cab record I listened to and for that reason I decided to put this album on here instead of Transatlanticism. I think I listed to Crooked Teeth over fifty time during the first month I had it. Ben Gibbard's vocal work is top notch, and I think that Death Cab's real strength is in their lyrics.
